Last year Bicknell Racing Products broke their record for the most cars built. Now, a year later, they just nipped the record once again by building 245 cars.
“We ended up building just about the same amount of cars as last year,” said Bicknell Racing Products partner, Randy Williamson. “That’s only because I shut it off. Once we hit that number we started building for 2019. We’re about ten cars ahead of last year already because of that.”
In August, Bicknell already started building their 2019 chassis. As of December 13th, they’ve already surpassed car No.108 and plan to have car no.116 done before the holidays.
“We can tack a car together in six hours from nothing in the jig to basically ready to go out the door,” he noted. “We have one or two guys tacking cars together and four guys welding to make the process a little faster.”
With cars getting built year-round, the work never slows for the BRP employees.“We guarantee six cars to get built and sent out the door per week,” added Williamson. “We have done eight before though, it all depends on the overtime. If a customer wrecked a car on Saturday and was up here Monday morning, we have cars in stock, and can have the customer out the door that night. In the winter it’s a little different when it comes to swapping the cars over, we can swap a car over in two days, but in the summertime, we can do it in a day.”
Bicknell Racing Products is always trying to stay ahead of the competition, to keep evolving, and bring its customers to victory lane. Heading into 2019, Bicknell has made a few adjustments on their 2019 chassis.
“We’ve upgraded the front nose of the race car,” he said. “We changed the right front clip a little bit to make it more of a durable car. We did test it with four or five drivers this season and it seemed to be good. The bodies also got upgraded a little bit on the right side. We did some preventative maintenance to stop the plastic from getting ripped off the door. That was one of the biggest problems we always had. We now have a nice package available for that.”
Despite a year plagued with rain, Bicknell Racing Products collected a total of 689 feature wins this season. Out of 83 possible track championships up for grabs, Bicknell Racing Products clinched 46.
“Everything is getting tougher,” Williamson noted. “Everyone has a chance to win anymore. For example, Matt Sheppard didn’t have the year he had two years ago. Everyone is doing their homework. We have a big mix of drivers now with a lot of young kids coming up to.”
After attending a few trade shows to close out the 2018 season, Williamson has been pleased with the attendance and is feeling good about 2019.
“The trade shows have been going over very well for us,” he said. “The sales have kept coming in which is good and we’re right on schedule. We just have to do what we’ve been doing and hopefully build another good season.”
