The driver of the No.M1 Page Trucking machine, Dave Marcuccilli, has been having what most would call a dream season.
The sportsman driver out of Montezuma, N.Y. has collected 16 victories so far this season.
“That’s more than some drivers get in their career,” said Marcuccilli.
With ten years of sportsman racing under his belt, it was only a matter of time for Marcuccilli to have his breakout year.
Marcuccilli currently leads the points chase at his Saturday night home track, Land of Legends Raceway. He has collected five wins on the season at Land Of Legends, plus victories all across central New York – Outlaw Speedway, Can-Am Speedway, Utica-Rome Speedway, and Brewerton Speedway.
“Our winning percentage is about 50% right now,” noted Marcuccilli. “As far as our class goes, we’re showing Matt Sheppard and Stewart Friesen numbers. We may not have the fields they get but we deal with a lot of good guys and really good equipment.”
Running weekly at Land of Legends Raceway and running at as many tracks as he can, Marcuccilli has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with.
“We messed around with some shocks and found a combination that works on the heavy and slippery tracks,” he said. “Whether we’re running American Racers or Hoosiers, I go with a standard setup. It’s very similar everywhere we go, I don’t change anything for any race track. All we’ve been doing lately is putting a little wedge in, changing the shock pressures and changing the left front shock. That’s it. It seems to work everywhere we go. Some people think we’re doing something tricky but once you hit on something, you stick with it until it stops working.”
Marcuccilli has been a dedicated customer to Bicknell Racing Products since day one.
“The fine line is that they always seem consistent,” he said about his race cars. “Every single one I’ve had, used or new, has always worked good. The people that work there, they’re very easy to communicate and work with. Randy Williamson and Bob Slack are easy to talk to and willing to help out. There’s no attitude or arrogance. I’ve never dealt with anyone else.”
With ten years of experience under his belt with Bicknell chassis’, Marcuccilli would proudly recommend Bicknell to anyone.
“I always recommend Bicknell,” Marcuccilli said. “The chassis’ seem to be very consistent and easy to find that good spot. You don’t have to do anything tricky to make them work. Their general setup seems to work pretty well.”
Looking ahead, Marcuccilli will be continuing his busy schedule in central New York with his No.M1 sportsman, however, Marcuccilli would be open to dabbling into some small block modified racing come Fall.
“It would be nice by the end of the season if we could get our fingers on a small block and do some small block modified racing,” he said. “I’ve been bugged about it all year to move up. It costs a lot of money though. I race for the fun of it, I don’t race to go broke. I stick with what we’re doing because I’m actually making money doing sportsman racing.”
If the right opportunity arises, we just may see Marcuccilli make his small block modified debut this season.
“This has been the worst year as far as negativity with people being sick of me winning,” Marcuccilli added. “Isn’t that the goal though? I haven’t finished outside of the top four in two months or longer. As far as I’m concerned that’s what we’re supposed to be doing. Everyone else just has to catch up and get better.”
