Craig Von Dohren opened the northeast 2018 season in victory this past Friday for the first race in the northeast at Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown, DE.

Despite frigid temperatures, Friday evening saw 30+ small block modifieds and a solid crowd on hand.

“It’s really a great feeling to win right off the bat,” Von Dohren said in victory lane. “We found some things at the end of the season last year at Bridgeport, and it seemed to carry over tonight.”

The second portion of the weekend saw Ryan Watt capture the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series season opener Saturday evening.

Saturday’s event was the Short Track Super Series 50th race and had 40+ Big Block Modifieds on hand.

“We’ve been so close to winning here and got second every race here last year,” Watt said in victory lane. “It’s awesome to finally get over the hump.”

Watt and Matt Sheppard waged a war for the top spot, switching posts on the leaderboard on multiple occasions, before Watt jumped ahead for good with three circuits remaining.

Watt’s victory was worth $6,949.

Eight out of the top-ten finishers in Saturday night’s main event were Bicknell cars including Matt Sheppard, David VanHorn, Billy Decker, Billy Pauch Jr., Duane Howard, Craig Von Dohren and Billy Pauch Sr.
