The short cold days of winter seem like a long distant
memory now as race fans, driver, owners and everyone in between make their way
to race tracks across the north east. In the few short weeks since the 2017
racing season has commenced, team BRP has picked up 9 feature wins and
continued their winning streak with weekend, picking up another 6. There were definitely
a few stories that caught our attention. If we awarded “the stars of the game”,
these drivers would receive them for sure.
Just this past Wednesday Mike Colsten’s brought his car to
Bicknell Racing Products. The car had been badly hurt in a dash for cash race
the previous week, backing into a retaining wall. The rear of the car had been
destroyed and required a new rear clip. The team at BRP went to work, replacing
the car with a brand new rear clip. Cutting the old one off just behind the driver’s
seat. Mike was back on the road, heading back to Binghamton NY by mid-afternoon.
It must have been all the car needed, as Mike dominated Saturday night at 5
Mile point. The car was untouchable and no other driver could even challenge Colsten
for the lead. He ran away with the show, grabbing the checkers.
The Brothers Hirthler caught our attention as well this
week. This weekend was a first for the drivers from Perkiomenville PA, marking
the first time the brothers have visited victory lane together, in the same
night. Kevin scored his 12th career win at the Grandview Speedway Saturday
night, while his brother Brian scored his 2nd career win in the
sportsman division at the Brothers home track.
With just a few short weeks into the racing season, Duane Howard
has showed he is going to be one to watch. The team has posted a few top 5
finishes as well as a heat win in the Norm Hansell owned number 357. This past
Saturday night Howard moved himself into the spotlight, capturing the win at
Bridgeport Speedway. Other notable BRP drivers were Jamie Mills who came home 2nd,
Sam Martz, Jeff Strunk, Dom Buffalino and Billy Pauch Jr who all picked up top
10 finishes.
Congratulations goes out to Travis Hill and Jimmy Holden who
also picked up feature wins this weekend.
