With hard racing in the DirtCar Sportsman Series all season,
we should have known it was going to come down to the last race of the year.
For it come down to the wire between three outstanding drivers, no one could
have predicted.
Heading into the 100 Islands RV Fall Nationals Weekend at
Brockville, only 37 points separated Shane Pecore, Brad Rouse and Ron Davis
III.
It has been an outstanding year for all 3 drivers behind the
wheel of their Bicknell Racing Products machines.
Shane Pecore had a year that most drivers only dream about
having. After picking up 10 feature wins during the 2016 season and the
Sportsman Series title at Cornwall, the crew was on point heading into the tour
races in September. Coming into the last race of the year Pecore had a 23 point
lead over Rouse.
Brad Rouse came out the gates on a charge this season, picking up the
best first 16 finishes in the DirtCar Series, a number of feature wins
including his most recent win at the Fulton Speedway during Super Dirt Week, as
well the Sportsman Series Title at Freedom Speedway and Humberstone Speedway.
Ron Davis came into the weekend sitting in the 3rd
spot in points racking up an impressive 2016 season. His first year following
the DirtCar Series was a great starting point to say the least. Picking up wins
at Humberstone, Ransomville and most recently Weedsport during Super Dirt Week.
He would also capture the Sportsman title at both Fulton and Brewerton.
A packed house on Saturday night at Brockville was ready to
see the sportsman series title claimed. Shane Pecore had the advantage at the
drop of the green flag, starting ahead of both Rouse and Davis. The track had
collected a lot of rubber which was working to Pecore’s advantage. Rouse and
Davis could not battle their way through the field before the checkers flew.
Pecore’s 6th place finish would be enough to claim his first
Sportsman DirtCar Series title.
An ending to what surely has been an outstanding season for
all 3 drivers. Bicknell Racing Products is #1 because of its customers. They
proved it again during 2016 and we could not be prouder of their
accomplishments. Congratulations Shane Pecore on your series win, as well as
Brad Rouse and Ron Davis on your outstanding 2016 seasons.
